Better long term accountability for risks

The limited liability of stock exchange listed companies did a great deal to drive capitalism by providing an effective mechanism for investment. But through derivative products (eg, issuing credit default swaps) some organisations have profited from taking on a risk profile out of all proportion to their financial capacity - hence the need for government intervention. We need to find a way to prevent organisations taking on such significant risks without a capacity to address them should they eventuate. While this is easy to see in the case of fiancial sector, it also applies in other industries such as nuclear power, oil wells etc. When an organisation can reap the reward but not possibly manage the risks of their business, the risks are automatically passed on to society at large.
