Story:
Three Ways to Ensure Company Safety Standards Are up to Par
Safety is highly important for any manager. Beause of this, we will discuss in-depth just what safety standards should be considered when making an improved workplace and informed staff.
According to a recent study by Travelers found on CBS News, a workplace injury occurs every seven seconds. As managers, our position in the workplace enables us to seek out these accident-prone individuals and aspects of company safety standards in order to prevent these injuries from ever occurring. However, it can often be difficult to determine exactly how to transform an office into a safe and far more secure work environment. Despite this, every weak link in your company’s proverbial “safety chain,” so to speak, only leads you closer and closer to a major issue amongst your employees and various legal issues, including worker’s compensation.
With this in mind, it is highly important for your company to reassess your overall safety measures, ensure your building is up to code as the summer season approaches, and create training programs for employees in order to train them properly on the new safety standards.

Instill Mandatory Company Safety Measures
Although most companies already have strong foundations regarding safety in the workplace, it is always a good move to transition into new seasons with a safety revamp, so to speak. Whether this means entirely new training or even simply buying new safety products for the business, keeping the company up to par with modern safety standards allows your employees to feel safe, your company to pass mandatory safety checks, and your clients to feel comfortable in this setting, knowing that their product was handled properly and safely when on the line.
The truth is that not passing these safety checks could lead to serious damage for any business, including being sued or even shut down. Therefore, by paying attention to ways to avoid foreclosure on your business and by paying attention to your products and employees as each season passes, you can ensure that your company is in the clear when these checks come around. Furthermore, many companies choose to conduct anonymous safety standards surveys which are biannually sent to each employee so as to get an idea of the actual quality these standards provide and how, if possible, you can improve.

Keep Buildings up to Code and Properly Cleaned
Despite company policy remaining a very large and important portion of your safety standards, the building in which you work is equally important, and the quality of the work environment plays a significant role in the safety of all of its employees. For instance, if your safety policy is up to par, but you have damaged equipment that leads to illnesses or injuries, you are still liable for any employee damage that happens at the hands of this faulty equipment which should have been replaced or maintained.
One of the most common neglected items found inside office building is the A/C unit, which all too often can become clogged, build up mold from moisture during hot seasons, and quite literally lead to airborne illnesses spreading company-wide. Because of this, continual maintenance is key to ensuring employee safety as a manager, and this comes both in the form of your devices as well as the building itself. Every day, it is smart practice to look throughout the building for any potential threats to safety and determine what could be improved or what needs to be replaced altogether. After all, restoring minor things as they happen is far easier than trying to keep up with a building that is already highly unsafe in multiple ways.

Create Training Programs to Promote Employee Safety
With your business and your safety policy in order, the last integral piece to a safe workplace are highly trained employees. Training employees on updated safety protocol can often be long and tedious, however, there are many ways to make the process more enjoyable and ensure company security and safety through it all.
For instance, a simple computer safety class can help you steer clear of unhappy accidents and avoidable leaks which could lead to highly important company and client data being released or used against you. Furthermore, a simple training course in new safety products can help your employees be acquainted with the use and necessity of these new items so they can not only be utilized properly but also respected in the office space. Lastly, a simple training course in health, such as a CPR class or various other injury training courses, can help your employees assist others in times of need which could quite literally save lives in the long run.
In the end, there are many ways to keep your company and employees safe and beginning with these three steps is a wonderful way to start your business off on the right tracks. From there, you can continue to improve daily and create a work environment that embraces safety and security.
Lots of good advice here Samantha. Your points 1 and 3 could be made much easier for companies, with things like off the shelf eLearning courses in health & safety. They are suitable for most organisations, can be tweaked, customised and branded, and are delivered easily online with the option for training managers to blend in face to face training as well. The idea is that workplace safety is improved but managers don't need to invest many hours creating new training and delivering it all by hand to large teams. Modern tech makes life a lot easier than that. :)
