Activities to Improve the Intelligence in School Kids
Kids read, write, and learn throughout the day through various means. But whether they understand any of it and use it is a million-dollar question. Intelligence is defined as the ability to apply knowledge in most dictionaries.
If children lack the skill to absorb vital life skills, parents should take extra steps to help them using different means. Follow these sure-fire ways to improve your child’s intelligence without trying much and spending thousands of dollars for additional coaching.
Spot the difference game
Make the kids spot the difference between two similar-sounding objects, spelling, or things, like asking them about the difference between casket and coffin. Nudge them to find out and explain it using their textbooks, google mobile, and any other means they like.
Check the difference.guru site if your child is a bit older to spot the difference between a malt and a shake, the difference between principles and ideals, etc. Children will never get tired of this game if you make it a habit to give age-related content for them to explore.
Make them write
Encourage the children to write using their own words instead of sticking to just their homework. Ask them to write down the grocery list for you. Make them write down the name of the video game they want you to buy or the name of a toy. Ask them whether the spelling is correct, if you spot any mistake, and tell them you could not find that product because the spelling was wrong.
It will kindle the kids to pay attention and write properly the next time. Ask the elder kids to fill out forms for you, write your letters, thank you notes, party invitations, etc. Such activities help them improve their writing skills and try something new with creativity.
Let them read to you
IQ experts keep stressing parents to read with the kids and not read to them. Instead of reading a bedtime story for your kids, let them read it to you. Help them if they struggle with a particular word or pronunciation. Keep introducing them to books suitable for their age every year.
This nighttime reading ritual helps kids increase their vocabulary by 30% compared to kids whose parents read stories. Ask your kids to read the newspaper headlines for you when you have breakfast or a colorful flyer, poster, an interesting Facebook post, etc., to improve their skills.
Spot colors, shapes, and numbers
Play with your kid asking them to bring all the green-colored things in the room to you. Ask them to get three triangular-shaped objects or two squares or one circle. The child will search the house, associate the concept of square or triangle with a photo frame, understand the plate is round and about numbers easily.
Ask the older kids to spot complex colors using things they like. Ask them whether the comic character Iron Man is wearing red or crimson? Ask whether Wolverine’s Adamantium is silver or grey? Children love playing such games with their parents as it strengthens their bond with them.
Explore together and let kids express
Go to a party with the kids and ask them what they enjoyed most. Make them write a thank you note to the host highlighting the top three things they loved about the party. Make the older kids write an online review of the new restaurant you visited after debating about the best feature.
Find out what they like and help them express their opinion in a refined way. Discuss with them and argue regarding what you wanted, and come to an agreement. Make them persuade you regarding their opinion without getting aggressive. Such soft skills will help enormously in their life.
