FROM GAIN SHARING TO TEAM PERFORMANCE AWARDS

Many years ago at Parker Pen I was assigned the responsibility for a revolutionary Gain Sharing bonus plan entitled “The Scanlon Plan”…  Over several years the plan bonus grew and grew until Parker Pen employees had better incomes than counterparts at General Motors… The plan paid back the company with consistent high profits… Historic records will verify the success of the plan at Parker

In subsequent years I came to Arizona as a manufacturing manager… The Arizona company policy would not permit paying bonuses.  To simulate the performance award concept I started a team lean video awards system which I have subsequently turned into an on line team performance award process.

At the Arizona company lean video awards broadcast the company policy of productivity.. A continuous stream of awards sustained bottom line improvement month after month… The cost/benefit ratio of the video awards program was even better than the Parker Gain Sharing plan.. The cost of continuous lean video awards is much less than the cost of continuous employee bonuses
