Steve Scheier is the CEO and Founder of Empowering Work Practices (EWP). Steve's background in politics, marketing, organizational development and education policy has enabled him to create dynamic practices that foster empowered organizations. His passion is to enhance individual and organizational effectiveness through processes that clarify and distribute decision-making responsibility, address and resolve organizational conflict and provide reciprocal performance feedback. Steve believes that these practices will enhance staff retention, spur innovation, increase leadership development and enable social sector and for-profit organizations to scale.
Prior to EWP, Steve served as the Vice President of Human Resources at College Summit, one of the nation's premier social sector organizations. He served in an identical role in three technology organizations. As an employee communication consultant Steve worked on the restructuring of American Express Technologies and on the merger of computer airline reservation service, Covia with its European counterpart, Galilleo. Earlier in his career, Steve worked for nine years at Apple. During this period he served as the Product Introduction Manager for the Macintosh launch in 1984, the Manager of Apple's Creative Services Department and as the Director of K-12 Marketing. In the early days of his career Steve worked for the National Institute of Education, the California Department of Education and the California State Assembly.
Steve was awarded a B.A., with "high honors" in Russian History (a little eclectic but useful when trying to understand the exercise of power in certain environments) and a M.A. in Educational Policy. Both of these degrees were awarded by the University of California, Berkeley.
