I work at the European Commission in Brussels, a large sprawling multilingual and multicultural bureaucracy... I don't wear a tie to work - I decided to take it off as a statement about the hierarchical nature of our organisation. I may put it back on when I can safely say that sharing knowledge is power in my organisation. Come to think of it, when that day arrives, maybe I won't need to put my tie back on, as everyone else will have taken theirs off. :-)
I'm know a fair bit about organisational knowledge management. I've supervised about 50 research projects in this area. My favourite KM quote is "KM does not work if we need information but we don't need each other".
I believe that a lot of stress comes from incoherence between what one is and what one does. As individuals, we need to get these agendas together as a first step to creating a happier world for ourselves and those around us.
