Moonshots
Summary
Create a public event series where organisations can safely experiment with future of work concepts and crowd source solutions to meaningful problems with the community
Problem
In most organisations the market for problems, ideas and solutions is moderated by the internal hierarchy. This means that the problems that the organisation chooses to address, the ideas that they entertain to solve it and the final solution are all explored in a way that meets the acceptance of upper management rather than the wider community.
Solution
This inward looking approach to problem solving in organisations is a cultural problem that has resulted from the previous high transaction costs associated with engaging collaborators. By using social media technologies and engaging with a large pool of collaborators on meaningful issues in a fun environment we will provide the opportunity for organisations to reconnect with social values.
Our intent is create a series of events where the crowd is engaged to help organisations help solve their pressing issues. The events will bring together multiple 'Organisational Collaborators' and they will compete for the crowds attention. The events will provide both an online space of imagination and conceptualisation and either an online or physical space for the evaluation and celebration of the best ideas. Prizes will be offered for both organisations and individuals that contribute to the best idea and the process will also provide an opportunity for organisations to 'network' with a broad range of collaborators.
Practical Impact
Key benefits of the events will include:
1. Opportunity for organisations to understand which of their problems broader society cares about and wants to help solve.
2. Opportunity for organisations to develop innovative solutions by collaborating with external stakeholders
3. Opportunity for organisations to identify solutions that have the support of the broader community rather than just internal decision makers.
4. Breaking down existing organisational boundaries by experiment with social media and other online technologies with external stakeholders.
5. Using the inherent competitiveness of organisations to address meaningful organisational problems in a fun and interactive manner.
First Steps
An concept is being launched as part of the Melbourne Sustainable Living Festival. The concept event aims to attract up to 10 Organisational Collaborators and 200 Individual Collaborators.
A review of the event will then ascertain how this could be replicated for future events across geographical locations.
A search for partnering organisations to utilise the event format will then be undertaken.
