Blink! Management of Ideas
July 18, 2011 at 7:59am
Summary
Web 2.0 makes the process faster. I mean, real quick, we know that.
Management now should make quick decisions in a blink of an eye.
Or as Malcolm Gladwell says, Blink! It's thinking without thinking.
Meanwhile, the values of transparency, collaboration, meritocracy, openness, and community in Web 2.0 encourage more people--anykind of people, really--to speak up more about their ideas whether they're fool or brilliant. More and more ideas come to the surface like never before. Ideas now shouldn't be practical, that's not what ideas should do. Currently, this is management's job to make any brilliant ideas practical.
Web 2.0 makes the impossible possible, and the ability to utilize several of million ideas is crucial these days.
How can management make quicker decision in response to problems or competitions? That's an issue.
How can management identify great ideas that is spreading about and, more importantly to eventually manage them? That's an issue.
And how does management manage to grab the brightest ideas to solve the current and and save future opportunities--quickly?
That's is THE issue.
'Management of Ideas' is the answer.
Consisting of creative communication, identifying self-determination and decisiveness of human capital and constant changes in leadership or organizational approaches.
This is more of an art than science.
Problem
First, Management should make quicker decisions to adapt with the dynamics of Web 2.0. It's thinking in a blink of an eye. Or we couldn't do better.
Second, Many people now can speak up more about their OWN ideas, whatever they are. We have abundance of ideas now, compared to the past.
Third, Many people usually reject the ideas that aren't considered 'practical'. In fact, many brilliant ideas seemed 'impractical' that now turned out to be great ideas. Like Twitter or Lovemarks by Saatchi & Saatchi. The definition of good ideas are now broadened.
Management 2.0 should be able to pick the best ideas in short amount of time.
Management 2.0 should be able to manage the best ideas and make them practical from their original forms.
Management 2.0 should be able to manage people of ideas.
Solution
Evaluate people by their self-determination and decisiveness to get the best place possible in workplace. Great ideas are not always coming up in interesting forms, they come up in the form of strong beliefs.
Emphasis on creative communication, no matter how corny the ideas, any kind of creative communication would make people love the them--eventually. Logics, languages, and loves involved. Especially since people can easily participate and be the agents of communication.
Creating constant changes in organizational approaches. Not necessarily significant, just to keep it fresh and up-to-date like how Web 2.0 encourage us to do so. Simple changes can grow the ideas of possibilities.
