Regardless of our respective role in a company, you might realize how booked are our diaries at the moment we want to set up a meeting with a customer, a colleague, a peer or even our boss / coach. Wow ! Daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings inhabit all across our calendar. Does this happen to you ? Does your diary suck?
Do we have the right levers and the assertive mood to decide whether to attend or not? My guess is that we just attend under the “just in case” principle to compensate our isolation from real time events that are flowing.Well, “just in case” is not the most effective thing to do.
How much value do these batch meetings really add? My hypothesis is that they are a legacy example of mass production, batch manufacturing and push models. The deck of slides that most of these meetings are based on is a clear example of a “batch”.

Claudio, thanks for this. I agree, unnecessary meetings are definitely a drag on productivity (and morale). You might be interested in this other Hack, "Meeting Consensus" by Sean Schofield, which proposes an online voting system that would allow everyone who had been invited to a meeting to vote on whether their attendance (and the meeting) is really necessary:
