Hack:
Success Quad: Solving business challenges by understanding and harnessing the relation between "Vision", "Human behaviour", "Knowledge" & "Business decisions".
Decisions on business bottlenecks can be made by concerned employees (regardless of their rank) aptly only when the broader aspects of business are clear to them.
This can be achieved by understanding and harnessing the relation between business's Vision, employee behavior and knowledge management. All these would lead to informed business decision making through a structured approach.
How can a business get rid of biased decision making? How can a business move towards a “rank and choose" methodology instead of "pick and choose”? How can each employee irrespective of its rank take decisions that contribute towards long term goals of company?
How to understand fellow employees expected prejudices? How to understand their reaction to outcomes?
Can Knowledge management help in achieving right information at all times?
Can structured decision making help solving day to day business challenges by employees irrespective of their ranks?
The logical solution and the business solution have stark differences. When we follow a logical path, we seldom overlook the future consequences, sometimes from unknown ends. Here, the role of Experience comes into play.
Can the importance of Experience be negated? Can it be better used?
The decision making be it in business or personal lives is loaded with personal biases, experience considerations and lack of information. Technology has helped in this regard to a certain extent only. Technology (like ERP solutions) helps us get the information quickly. But on a broader aspect, there is much more to a business decision than a mere availability of information. Can technology help in this?
I believe we can use technology smartly to get our business decisions done accurately, quickly and consistently.
The idea I want to put across is that if we can link the Business’s vision, human behavior, knowledge and information to fuel a structured decision making process, we can achieve aforesaid.
-
Everyday problem solving can be done appropriately at a lower level in hierarchy leaving managers sufficient time to focus on forward strategy.
-
The decisions taken this way minimize the “Rework”.
-
The idea focuses on decentralized decision making. It provides opportunities to more people for
decision making.
- Connecting the 4 ends of the “Success Quad” needs one to go through a bottom up approach in building the tool.
- Acceptability: Change management: This is the biggest challenge. If we want to introduce technology enabled decision making, conventional experts shall always feel the pinch.
The need to look at decision making based on open information is must for organizations. For this proper knowledge management and quantitative as well as qualitative methods are required to be used. This entire idea revolves around a imaginary quad wherein business's Vision, employee behaviour, structured decision making and knowledge management are interlinked. There relative performance defines the organization's performance.
