The Problem of our Human Nature - Lessons learned?

Lessons learned?

More attention must be given to our Human Nature.  We have existed on this planet for some 200 thousand years.  So what are the lessons learned from the past? 

Management for the 21st century will be more or less the same as it was in the last century, if we don’t learn from our mistakes and if we don’t listen (as we have not in the past) to far to many good advises given.

We can start, some 2,500 years ago with Sun Tzu’s work The Art of War.  The work of  Chester I Barnard 1938 The Function of the Executive, Herbert A. Simon, H. A. 1945 Administrative behavior, Peter F. Duckers’ books and articles, Henry Mintzbergs books and articles and many others.

When we started to domesticate animals we did the same to our self’s.  Example:  If you go some large city like New York, Tokyo or London and you look around what do you see.  

What the people that have given us some good advice agree on is the role of the individual.  We are all in this together and good management for any century is to lead with respect for others and stop treating people like inventory or dead objects.  

What goes around comes around.

The key element is trust.  But trust is easily broken as we know in the Western word.

How can we gain trust in our overpopulated planet?  How can we help instead of destroy?  (Global Warming)

Managers have to lead but they must have earned trust if we want the story to have a happy ending.  Purpose, mission, vision, and the glue that binds it all together are “trust”.  Yes, management reflects our society.
