Me in Three
- My wife and extended family have constantly inspired and supported me to try to be a better person and businessman. My mother, who became one of the best educated people I know with only an eighth grade education, also made sure her children aspired to a college education. My father, whose work ethic was non-stop, constantly showed us that energy, work, and a positive attitude were extremely powerful. It pleases me that my children and grandchildren are talented and wonderful individuals and understand the value and importance of education and work.
- I am committed to working to build a great business that is highly innovative and a great place for all our associates to work. The number one critical success factor towards this is that every associate believes in supporting our customers as their principle goal. The second is that we all are dedicated to learning and growing as individuals throughout our lives. Serving our customers and serving our associates gives us many opportuinites and also allows us to extend our talents and resources to our communities. I also love reading and sports of all kinds, most particularly golf in recent years.
- We are faced with an imposing problem that goes to the core of our civilization. Can our society exist and prosper in the future with a large percentage of our population not graduating from high school and functioning with lower than a 12th grade education? If the answer is 'no,' as it most certainly is, we must dedicate ourselves to reinventing our inner-city education system to help children become well-educated, lifelong learners. This will allow them to become great contributing citizens and open up educational achievement to them. I believe that a partnership of our business community, its people, and its knowledge of leveraging technology can lead to a dramatic improvement in education.
