I graduated from college in February of 1971, Mr. JKE had his motel manager Durrell Dallas ask me if I want to become a management trainee. The restaurant manager had just quit or been fired.
I wonder if we have gotten to the point where mission statements are ignored. Every organization seems to be creating a mission statement. How effective are these mission statements?
I was talking to a close friend at my company, he said, “How could you stay in management so long? I never wanted to be a manager. I never wanted to tote the corporate water or be a corporate hammer.”
What does focus and obligation have to do with a first line manager’s responsibilities? Focus and obligation are the keys to a successful organization. If you can draw; you can draw a focus.

Leaders must be managers; but, managers do not necessarily have to be leaders. Leaders have to manage all the resources at their disposal, self, others, communication, etc.
